The MWC rated over the ACC and BE by ESPN

September 21, 2008 3:56 am

This is another indication of why mid-majors have to find ways to break the BCS system currently in CFB.  Why on earth should two conferences rated lower than a mid-major conference get automatic berths into big money bowl games, while the higher rated conference has to battle to get into a spot.  There's only one way to make the system change, and that's to keep winning and have mid-majors getting into the BCS all the time.  This yr there could be as many as two mid-major teams left out of BCS games who qualified under the rules to get in.....this will cause a ripling effect as these schools and conferences again turn to the legislature and courts with anti-trust law-suits.  I believe that this kind of pressure on the BCS will eventually cause them to aquies to a playoff.  Remember the USCs, Auburns, etc of the BCS conferences that got hosed out of NC games despite being better teams than those that did reach the NT.  It isn't right for them either.

Here's the link to the ESPN rankings of conferences (BoiseAlum actually posted the link, so he should get credit for it here):

If we don't have a playoff, my favorite resolution to this strangle hold is to award the 6 Autobids to the 6 strongest conferences (by ranking) at the end of the season.  If the end of the season were right now, one of those Autobids would go to the MWC.

This makes a lot of sense.  It would accomplish a couple of important things.  It would promote tougher OOC schedules by non-BCS schools - they would need to to get their conference ranking up.  It would also give the non-BCS conferences a little more hope at landing a prestigious bowl.

The big drawback, of course, would be the BCS Bowl affiliations would have to go.

 About This Group
I think the name says it all. This is for fans of mid-major teams who are tired of the BCS and the broken system of CFB. This is for fans that want to see CFB decided by men on the field, not men behind desks smoking their Cubans while counting their money. EVERY other sport in America has a playoff including lower CFB divisions, the FBS as it's called does not. Who's out of step, and out of tune with the modern day student athlete, and the modern day fan?

Interests: Mid-majors and the desire to no longer s, or a "mythical" NC game.
